Turner was serving a life without parole sentence for the deaths of her husband, policeman Glenn Turner, and her boyfriend, firefighter Randy Thompson.
According to Georgia 's chief medical examiner Dr. Kris Sperry, Turner died from "toxic effects of the prescription medication propranolol, a blood pressure medication that Ms. Turner had been prescribed."
"Toxicology studies revealed that Ms. Turner had a lethal level of this drug in her blood indicating that she had ingested an amount well above the prescribed dosage," Dr. Sperry said.
Because investigators found no apparent evidence of injury or foul play, her death was considered a suicide, Sperry said.
Almost Got Away With It
When Turner's policeman husband died March 3, 1995, the death was believed to be caused by an irregular heart beat. But when her boyfriend, Randy Thompson, died in 2001 under similar circumstances, investigators began looking into the deaths of both men.
Both men were found to have traces of ethylene glycol in their systems, meaning they had been exposed to antifreeze. Turner was convicted of killing Glenn Turner in 2004 and convicted of killing Thompson in 2007.
Prosecutors said the motive for the murders was financial, Turner received $150,000 from Glenn Turner's insurance and pension and received $36,000 in benefits from Thompson's death.
